Eyes of compassion

After a difficult week of work, I find it helpful for my sanity to take the time to sit and meditate. Getting some time to be in the moment seems an essential aspect to functioning.

While I’ve sat with a variety of meditative and Buddhist groups, I’ve been pleased with the openess and easy attitude of the meditation sessions at the Eyes of Compassion Sanga.

Made up of Denverites from various walks of life, the group offers a chance for both silent meditation and some discussion on the issues of the day.

Meeting at the Mountain View Friends Meeting House (2280 S. Columbine St. Denver, CO 80210) on Thursdays (save the first Thursday of each month), the Thursday night program offers a 20 minute meditation, followed by a 20 minute walking meditation, another 20 minutes of silent sitting, a cookie/tea time, and a discussion period at the end.

The readings that proceed discussion often come from Thich Nhat Hahn, a monk from Vietnam reknowned for his peace work.

With people of all ages, backgrounds, ideologies, and experience, the meditation makes for a relaxing and insightful break in the week.
