Kilgore Trout: Awesome name.

Confession time: I’m a big ol’ nerd who loves comic books- I’ve been through phases where I’ve read them rather religiously and couldn’t go a month without salivating over the new issue of, say, Cable (Oh, I was young then!)

Unfortunately, I’ve been out of the loop for the past year or so. Dreadful!

But fortunately, this may give me a chance to get into independent comics instead of the big graphic monsters of my years past.
(Although I still want to know if Jack of Fables charmed his way out of catastrophe, or if Red Sonja defeated the Demon Lord, need to get pretty much get all of the Watchmen under my belt, and mercy me, I have to catch that new X-Men reboot… So much to read, so far behind!)

That’s why I was overjoyed to notice a sign for Kilgore Used Books and Comics.

I haven’t built up the moxie to go in yet, as I want a definitive list of titles to pick up before getting all book-and-comic-awe-struck, but it looks like an incredible place. Specializing in used books and independent comics, the place seems like a bibliophile’s dream.

I can’t stay away long from a place that recommends writers like Jorge Luis Borges, Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and my adolescent obsession, Robert Heinlein. And, holy hot hell, it’s named after a Vonnegut character. I am honor bound to visit here soon.

They also note that they carry local ‘zines, which is always fun and helps support the local artists.

I can’t wait. I also need to know what comics must be read at the moment, so if any other nerds out there have Must-Read lists for either independent or “mainstream” comics, I’ll definitely appreciate them.
