Hope took over Denver, stopped traffic on Colfax

Yay, Obama!!

I did not have tickets to see the historic Obama speech at Mile High (*weep*) but I peddled my fastest to local hangout Gabor’s where Denver and the presidential nominee were on every TV. Yay!

It was great to see the rapt attention of all eyes turned towards the TV, and people in the bar breaking out in spontaneous cheers and clapping (I found myself clapping wildly, not realizing that Obama probably could not notice me clapping those many miles away…) It was great to feel the buzz in the air (until some dickweeds came in and yammered on LOUDLY about some stupid thing or another… ) The bar broke into a round of applause at the end. Fun!

My gentleman caller biked back from the stadium area (Angel’s Bar and Grill)- Colfax and Auraria Parkway, closed for the speech, were like a scene from the film 28 Days Later, he reported. I will steal his photos from this Ride of the Apocolypse. I’ve been sweating the impending zombie end-of-days (or maybe that’s just the Bush Administration feeling lingering…), and now I have seen what it shall look like. A dead, empty Colfax. Whoa. I just scared myself.

I will also steal photos from the Critical Mass ride the other night- my friend on the front line reported that police attempted to stop the bikers from riding up Larimer Street, but the intrepid bikers gathered, raised their bikes over their heads, and asked to pass. Sounds like a stirring visual. They were allowed to walk their bikes through the juncture and bike up 16th Street (biking on the mall? Awesome!) Hoping to snag some photos of that from my pal… Soon soon!

So the delegates are clearing out now, their boozy haze and live-blogging gone from our streets (blogger sighting: I saw the fellows from Politico on the streets, but got too nervous to say anything. Jeez, what a nerd.)

Well, I was exhausted, but last night filled me up with so much Hope I feel like the moments after Thanksgiving dinner. I’m Hope-Drowsy.
