Parallels to today in a past play of love, war

Losses and love have existed throughout the history of humans, and sadly, so has war.

Examining the life of a young man as he remembers a life lived during the Vietnam era, his life becomes a powerful example of how war can alter and even destroy an individual and a family.

First produced in 1967 and later turned into a movie starring Michael Douglas, Ron Cowen’s play examines a young man who, attempting to avoid the draft, finds himself confronted with not only his parent’s disaproval, but his personal conflicts over patriotism and comittment. Eventually shipped off to Vietnam, the narrator remembers his favorite moments spent under a tree near his home, remembering the various twists that brought him to this place of suffering and war.

In its regional debut, the play will be running at Miner’s Alley (1224 Washington Avenue, Golden, CO) through October 26, 2008.

With the lessons of Vietnam so closely parallelling our current situations, the insights of the production should be powerful and moving for everyone.
