Drag at Charlies was not a drag
So the birthday weekend was, as I could have told you, midly sedate and infinitely pleasant- it was nice to take ‘er easy. However, I did stop loafing about long enough on Sunday to ring a few folks and head over to Charlie’s on Colfax to see the Vivid Drag Queens. As previously documented, I have a deep and abiding love for those feisty dame-dudes.
As with every Sunday, the Vivid night is a cabaret style show with several performers taking on well known characters (Cher made an appearance) and their own unique personae to dance and lipsynch for the cheering crowd.
Nina Flowers, with the shocking kabuke makeup and lacy bodysuit, was the smash hit of the evening. One of the winners of famed drag star RuPaul’s drag queen contest, Flowers hit the floor with energy, moves, and a pom-pom of hair sticking up from the top of her head.
Admission was free, pitchers of Budweiser were $3, and the show started promptly at 9PM, with a packed house there to see the action.
So thanks to the folks who joined, and to all the drag queens who made me envious of their moves and long, long legs.
