Go see starz
I’ve always wanted to attend one of those fancy movie festivals in Toronto or Park City or something. I’d search for celebrities and leak their gossip to Us! Magazine (They’re just like Us, but with drugs and hotter bodies and plastic surgery!) and spend the rest of the time flitting from one theatre to another, never letting the harsh light of day touch my pale skin (a movie morlock, I suppose.)
But why travel to so far off for the films when the stars are right here in Denver?
The Starz Film Festival , sponsored by the Denver Film Society and Starz, offers some of the most intriguing new works in both feature length and short films.
This weekend wraps up the festival, with plenty to see, including some awards being handed out to documentaries, student films, and other works.
It looks like a great lineup for both today, Friday, and both weekend days- Saturday and Sunday offer Paul Newman tributes with “The Hustler” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” being shown, along with student short films and Colorado filmmakers adding some new and local flavor to the festival.
Some films I thought looked intriguing after glancing through the shows this weekend included “The Garden,” a documentary about a community garden in the LA area, “I Was a Swiss Banker” in which an escaping scam banker finds himself in a lake with a shy mermaid, and “Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie,” which appeals to my love of cryptids and obsession with monsters.
Yes, it looks like a fine time. And seeing that I am already pasty and pale, my dream of finally withering away even more by spending endless hours watching a flickering screen might just become a reality.
Really, though, this looks like a great event, and it’s wrapping up on Sunday, so go and get your Starz on this weekend.
