Gah! It’s Wednesday- that bleak no-man’s land that lies between the hopeful beauty of Friday and the dreaded Monday. There’s something draining about a Wednesday, as if you don’t know quite how to feel.

That’s why I’m looking forward to SPUN tonight at the Meadowlark Lounge (27th and Larimer) from 9PM- close.

A variety showcase of talents from around town, SPUN is spontaneous fun that allows some of our local stars to shine. I like to imagine it something like the variety shows of old (You guys know Sonny and Cher? The groovy but ill-fated Brady Bunch musical cavalcade? The Simpsons’ Smile Time Variety Hour?)

Tonight, some of the showcases will include visual art by Steven Read, fashions by mukee, music by Natural Selection, and music selections by Jonny DeStefano. The hosts, Brandi Shigley of Fashion Denver and filmmaker Johnny Morehouse will be offering up their best Sonny and Cher style on the stage. All that excitement for only $5!

So shake off the Wednesday doldrums with Spontaneous Fun tonight. In a variety show, there’s always something for everyone! (Unless it’s Rosie O’Donnell’s horrific “Rosie Live!” or *ugh* Nick and Jessica Simpson’s short lived variety hour. No, those had nothing for anyone. Nothing at all.)
