Mega nerd, powerup! The Watchmen movie is here!

So I know there’s already a lot of hype around this Watchmen film and it probably doesn’t need another advertisement, but holy makererl! With the lawsuits over distribution between Fox and Warner Bros., I wasn’t certain Alan Moore’s AMAZING graphic novel would make it to the screen.

In his graphic novel, Moore challenged the very idea of the comic book “super hero,” deconstructing the old mythologies and tropes to bring to light difficult characters. For the many decisions these “heroes” have to make throughout the book, the simple right-and-wrong stands of the comics past simply would not stand, as Moore crafted one of the thought-provoking moral question after question. Today’s good graphic novels, at least to my mind, seem to pull a lot from this careful (sometimes meta) examination of the difficulties and thorny realms of the choices both heroes and villains make. Ambiguous, at time terrifying, and very gratifying, Moore is a master of his craft (although he’d not a fan of the movie-versions of his work… But I still must see it!)

Anyone else planning to hit the theatres this weekend? I’m on pins and needles, I really hope it’s good!

If anyone is planning on going, shall we make a Denver Connects trip of it?
