Denver Underground

This week is a spectacular feast of local music as the Underground Music Festival kicks off for its 9th year in a row.

Starting on July 23, (that’s this Thursday!), local and other underground bands will begin taking the stage in various venues around town, giving everyone a taste of their sounds.

Thursday kicks the UMS off in style with 23 bands, notably b.sous, everything absent or distorted, Rabbit is a Sphere, Cowboy Curse, and plenty of other recognizable names.

On Friday, I’m particularly excited to see Mark Mallman, a Minneapolis resident who makes frequent appearances here on Denver stages (and also generously consenting to play many games of Wii sports with rowdy and drunk fans in Fort Collins…) 94 other bands or activities will be going on that day, so it’s going to be a busy one…

On Sunday, it’ll be hard to pass up a chance to see Ian Cooke live, and there’s also over 60 bands playing that day, so it’s a full line up of great stuff.

Tickets are only $22 on the UMS website, which is totally a steal for this much music!

  1. I love the Denver underground music scene. My band Antioquia has rolled through a few times and found a band called Sons of the Addicted. They are frickin’ sick. We’re playing together at the Hi-Dive on Friday June 18th. You should come check it out. Both bands compose rock designed to blow your mind. Thanks for spreading the love of music!
