FLW and the Imperial Hotel

And now… for something that has absolutely nothing to do with Denver…

If you want to get your mind off Denver (or reality) for a time, try reading about Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.

I’ve studied him extensively and find his tastes and achievements to be nothing short of astounding, Imperial included. Sadly, the Imperial does not remain. It was demolished in 1968, much like the work of IM Pei here in Denver was demolished in the 1990s. [Well, ok, one of those two works was a magnitude more important, but I tied this post back into Denver with that, see?]

Further off topic: Wright said that his admiration for Japanese art was immense, and that he thought it was “closer to the earth” than other types, to which I’d agree heartily.
